Tree planting campaign
Tree planting is one of the core activities of GWU program, every month GWU monitors 13 villages to ascertain the progress and survival rate of fruit trees that were distributed to households doing well in WASH in a bid to boost tree planting campaign in the community. The 13 villages are; Muhuwa, Namwongo, Luwerere A, Nabwere North, Nabwere South, Dohwe East, Dohwe Central, Buwongo East, Buwongo West, Buwongo Central, Luwerere B, Namalere and Sinde, these villages received a total of 713 fruit trees comprising of mango and orange fruit trees. During the monitoring, 565 fruit trees were found growing well while 148 fruit trees dried out which showed a survival rate of 79.24%. The reason for the un-survival of 148 fruit trees was due to limited rain and too much sunshine. The purpose of encouraging households to plant trees is climate change mitigation.
