Formation of Village Savings and Loans Associations

17 Village savings and loans Associations were formed from 9 villages of Buhemba Sub County; the VSLAs are formed as a sustainability plan for the program to support beneficiaries who are doing well in WASH hold each other accountable in maintaining improved WASH situation and also to empower them economically. VSLA members have weekly meetings for deposit of their savings which is done in a rotational way in the homesteads of different members. Before any savings and loaning business is conducted during the sittings, members inspect the different WASH facilities in the household to ensure that the WASH situation is doing well. By so doing they are able to hold each other accountable and maintain improved WASH. Also, the VSLA supports beneficiaries to develop economically since they are able to save funds out of the reduced medical bills due to reduced WASH diseases as a result improved WASH.
